Because it was make from carbon and quicklime on electric heat in the generation of 2000 ℃ as to be a not very scientific name - calcium carbide

CaC2+H2→Ca+C2H22、In the absence of water, the calcium carbide in the hydrogen flow can heated to 2200 ℃, generating acetylene.
CaC2+N2→CaCN2+C3、Calcium carbide powder with nitrogen reaction lime nitrogen under the condition of heating, the chemical name is calcium cyanamide
CaC2+H2O→Ca(OH)2+C2H24、Calcium carbide decomposition by water can produce acetylene
CaCN. Ammonia pass into the calcium carbide powder and heated to 650 ℃ can generate calcium cyanamide CaCN.
4)Use:
Used in the production of acetylene gas, PVC, lime nitrogen, dicyandiamide, iron and steel desulfurizer, also can use in metal welding and cutting, synthetic resin industry, medicine, rayon, film, and other major raw materials.
5)Packaging,storage and transportation: Calcium carbide packed in dry sealed drum, with a net weight of 100 +2.0 kg per barrel. Calcium carbide stored in dry, well-ventilated storage of dangerous goods. Transport and handling should be light to move and put, people should avoid both ends of the barrel, also storage and transportation should prevent water and fire.
